Custom Outdoor Signage That Can Take The Heat This Summer
Faded graphics that are bleached by the sun or large banners that have been damaged by the wind are just some of the problems people have with custom outdoor signage. There are many factors to consider when you’re looking to do outdoor signage, and it’s critical that your graphics can take the heat – both literally and figuratively.
We recently produced and installed dozens of graphics and banners for the amazing One Moto Show. Hosted in an open-air structure that was erected for ship-building, our team of high-flying installers was working up to 30 ft in the air. When hanging signs in public spaces, safety is just as important as branding and messaging so there were a lot of decisions to be made on the material, finishing, and installation in order to get it installed smoothly and efficiently.
THE BEST MATERIALS FOR YOUR OUTDOOR EVENT SIGNAGE
Custom outdoor signage can attract attention, but with so many options, how do you get started?
- Vinyl is considered to be the most durable substrate for outdoor banners because of its innate durability. Vinyl signage can be placed almost anywhere so it is incredibly versatile, making it a popular choice for any outdoor event. It allows for superior image quality at a reasonably low cost, but at times the surface can show glare or wrinkles in bright sunlight and it’s not the most environmentally friendly option.
- Signage printed on fabric such as lightweight polyester can easily be transported and displayed at indoor and outdoor events. Fabric graphics are generally preferred for covered areas and work particularly well on awnings and ceilings. Fabric banners also offer a bit of transparency so placing them in front of a window allows natural light to illuminate the design. The final finish on fabric is much more forgiving than vinyl, it’s matte finish gives it a very high-end look that hides wrinkles and imperfections well.
- Mesh is another great material for outdoor signage. It reduces the weight of a banner while still allowing both wind and light to pass through. Mesh is an ideal choice for windy conditions or extra-large graphics such as building wraps. The material’s natural wind resistance prevents it from becoming a sail on breezy days while its semi-transparent nature is ideal for branding and imagery while still allowing light to peek through.
